There are a number of attractive walks around Coleraine, especially along Bryan Creek, or from the parking at West Park up to the lookout overlooking the town or along the western side of the creek around to Sylvester Oval. And of course, you can enjoy many, many beautiful walks in the arboretum, too, and along the Hamilton-Coleraine Rail Trail. For the more energetic, a walk from Sylvester Oval to the top of the hill behind Queens Park is especially rewarding for the views of Coleraine and surroundings.
But even a walk along Whyte St is very worthwhile. Our town has a long and interesting history, and a number of storyboards with historical notes and illustrations, as remembered by older members of the community, can be found and read (or listened to) along the way. The map below shows the location of the original storyboards. The order is not chronological so you can start anywhere you like! Each storyboard has an associated web page with linked audio to hear the text read out, and a link to the next storyboard page.
The page for the first storyboard, about the Peter Francis Points Arboretum, can be found here. More storyboards were added later, mostly along the Bryan Creek track (shown here in blue).
