Walking around Coleraine
Helena Rubinstein

Helena Juliet Rubinstein, cosmetics manufacturer, entrepreneur and philanthropist was born on the twenty-fifth day of December 1879 at Krakow in the Province of Galicia in the Country of Poland, died first day of April, 1965 New York, USA.
When her father suggested marriage to a wealthy widower she escaped by proposing to visit her mother's brother, Louis Silberfeld, and his niece Eva, at Coleraine in Western Victoria. She arrived in Australia on the ship "Prince Regent Luitpold", disembarking at the Port of Melbourne in July 1897.
Her uncle, whom she stayed with, was a part time oculist who, with his brother Bernhard, had a dwelling and fancy goods shop in the main street. During her time at Coleraine she came up with the idea to sell face cream brought from Poland, allegedly made by Jacob Lykusky, a Hungarian chemist. She fell out with her Uncle Louis and moved to Melbourne to make her fortune.
